New FrontPoint Wireless Indoor Security Camera

In addition to its recently released wireless pan and tilt camera, FrontPoint Security puts another option on the table for indoor wireless video surveillance. This camera allows users to keep an active eye on homes and offices remotely with the ability to watch live feed via mobile devices or on a computer.

With a built-in motion detector, the camera can also serve as an alert system. When the camera detects motion, it immediately generates a video clip and sends you a text or email. Owners can view the clips to monitor the situation or can opt to store them for later viewing. This notification/viewing system is emerging as a staple in FrontPoint Security’s new wave of interactive security technology.

The camera is extremely lightweight (3.5 oz) and the mounting accessories are included in the box. The wireless set-up is easy, only requiring a wireless router, an Internet account and registration to the FrontPoint Security portal. Directions are included.

Like its pan and tilt counterpart, this camera offers high definition 720p image resolution and night vision clarity with true colors. The camera uses technology like infrared LED illumination, which allows for a visual penetration of 20 feet in complete darkness. However, its field of view is significantly less than the pan and tilt version: 37.8 degrees horizontal and 54 degrees vertical.

This camera is well-suited for those with busy lives that keep them away from home.  It is also convenient for monitoring different levels or rooms of a home when residents are otherwise occupied. For example, if the camera detects motion during the night, a text message could awaken a home owner and allow him to check the video footage. The thresholds of the motion detector can also be altered to the desired sensitivity.

NOTE: The pan and tilt offers a larger scope of visibility for $100 more. However, the wireless camera is innovative in that it can be easily picked up and moved to different locations. This could be a great way to monitor children at play during the day and entryways at night.
